Close is about the friendship between two 13-year-old boys, Leo and Remi, who are close to each other in their young lives. The story begins with their close friendship, which changes abruptly when Remi isolates herself from Leo at school. The film explores themes such as friendship, loss, identity and the complexity of emotions during the transition to adolescence.
When a tragic incident occurs, the boys are confronted with the reactions of those around them, which affects them both in a profound way. Close explores the fragility of relationships and how social expectations and misunderstandings can change the way we interact with each other.

I put a few words on paper: friendship, intimacy, fear, masculinity… And that’s what Close eventually grew from. The scenario took shape thanks to conversations with Angelo Tijssens, with whom I had worked together on writing Girl.
Close is a production by Menuet, Diaphana Films, Topkapi Films & Versus Production in co-production with vtm and RTBF. The film was made with the support of the Flemish Audiovisual Fund (VAF), the Netherlands Film Fund (NFF) and The Netherlands film production incentive, le Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, Canal+, Ciné+, Sacem and EURIMAGES with the help of the Tax Shelter Measure of the Belgian Federal Government and Casa Kafka Pictures.
